Tom Rowley, going it alone for the first time, is one of the finest musicians from a generation of Sheffield artists blessed with talent. A cornerstone of Sheffield bands for two decades, most recently with Arctic Monkeys. He co-wrote portions of "Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino" and "The Car" with the band. Additionally, he's been a longtime touring member of the Arctic Monkeys, appearing on two world tours with the band.
Cistern play rock music like the best bands formed at the periphery: raw, scrappy, intuitive – a group of friends forging awe and anguish into song. Inspired by the indie rock of the 00’s, 90’s slowcore and 80’s post punk and goth music, their sound balances their eclectic music tastes to create something uniquely their own. Their songs often incorporate obscure, angular melodies and grooves while trying to hook the listener with guitar lines and vocal refrains. They aim to challenge the listeners expectations but not to the point of exhaustion, offering both tension and release.
Formed in 1995, The Dears released their first, ultra lo-fi album, End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story, in 2000. The orchestral, dark pop sound and dramatic live shows cemented The Dears at the foundation of the then-emerging Canadian indie-rock renaissance. Their live show was described as “the sonic equivalent of seeing the face of god.” In 2001 and 2002, they released two separate concept EPs Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique and Protest, respectively.
Courtney Marie Andrews has returned with her first new song in three years - “Cons and Clowns” - a celebration of living authentically, and embracing our truest selves amidst the chaos of the current world. Showcasing the GRAMMY nominee’s “astonishingly beautiful” (Stereogum) vocal work, “Cons and Clowns” builds on a signature songwriting approach that “doesn’t just tell us truths; but makes us feel them poignantly, and right on time” (NPR Music).
Red Ladder Theatre Company presents a wide range of exciting touring shows at alternative theatre venues across Yorkshire this autumn.
As the nights draw in, Red Ladder Local’s autumn programme has something for all ages, from high-octane family fun to a one-woman comedy drag show.
For over two decades, Midlake has quietly built a world of their own—rooted in the college-town charm of Denton, Texas, but expansive in sound and spirit. With their sixth studio album, A Bridge To Far, the band returns with a record that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. It's an album about hope—not in some abstract sense, but as a human necessity. “Hope is a need,” says frontman Eric Pulido. “To look beyond, above what is. We can all relate on many varying levels.”
Militarie Gun’s new album, God Save The Gun, starts with a confession. “I’ve been slipping up” frontman Ian Shelton roars on the opening cut “B A D I D E A.” It’s real vulnerability tucked amongst distorted bass and blown-out drums, and the perfect introduction to one of the most exciting records of the year. This isn’t just a sonically daring, massive swing of a rock album, it’s also a very human document of being at your worst when you should be on top of the world – an absurdist guide to the intersection of self-destruction and self-belief.
