Frankenstein

Del Toro's adaptation movingly captures the sense of isolation and yearning which permeate the story, whilst also creating a fugue of dread and elemental horror. The outcome is a contemporary gothic masterpiece that immediately feels timeless.

Oscar Isaac's egotistical and obsessive Victor Frankenstein is balanced perfectly by an outstanding performance by Mia Goth as Elizabeth and Jacob Elordi, who delivers a heart-stealing performance as the Creature.

Alien

Responding to an unknown emergency broadcast, the crew of the Nostromo investigate a desolate planet. But to their horror, and ours, they bring something else back on board with them. Something predatory, terrifying, brutal. But the creature is not the only danger that lurks in the darkness of their ship.

Showing as part of our Philosophy & Film strand, Alien has been selected by Dr. Jordan Adshead and will be followed by a short talk from Jordan, exploring some of the philosophical themes raised.

Happyend

Happyend is a vivid coming-of-age portrait, following best friends Yuta and Kou as they confront a world where AI surveillance is tightening under the yoke of oppressive authoritarianism. Infused with the raw energy and pulsing with a techno soundtrack, Happyend is a hopeful, youthful vision of resistance and joy in the face of control.
