Nature: Sensory – exhibition

Showcasing work by  five artists, this second iteration of Nature: Sensory reimagines how we experience the environment.

The show explores alternative sensory engagements with nature that are more than just visual, such as the tactile qualities of materials or the rhythm of movement.

Showing work created by disabled artists and those living with long-term health conditions, the exhibition offers fresh, unique interpretations of Wakefield’s green spaces that challenge traditional perceptions of landscape.

Lack of Afro

Lack of Afro and Greg Blackman equals funk & soul gold. 2023’s ‘Loving Arms’ raised the roof and smashed setlists to smithereens with its soaring horns and rousing, all-in-together vocals, becoming a fixture on the BBC 6 Music playlist off the back of extensive championing from Craig Charles and described as “an absolute triumph” by Lauren Laverne.

Wise Woman

Blending ancient folk traditions with a bold contemporary flair, Wise Woman arrives with a heady collision of lush vocal harmonies, cinematic strings and 90s girl power. The group’s “startling and shimmering” (Folk Wales) blend of folk, jazz, and musical theatre sounds has enchanted audiences far and wide, from Radio 3 to Celtic Connections to Secret Garden Party. Spinning tales on diverse subjects such as fenland witches, environmental activists and drag artists, powerful lyrics and captivating storytelling transports audiences on a unique and transformative musical journey.

Scott Bennett: Stuff

As a society we love stuff, it’s a statement about who we are and who we want to be. But apparently, this message is at odds with the looming environmental crisis. We’re now struggling to balance these worlds, to focus on the things that bring us real connections and nourish the soul. Award-winning comedian and product designer, Scott Bennett is desperately trying to cleanse his life of stuff, but is this even possible anymore?
