From Airey Home Dreams to Eviction Nightmares: The Oulton Coal Estate Story

In 1953, the Coal Board built 210 prefab Airey houses in Oulton. They were loved by tenants, but design flaws and landlord neglect led to eviction and demolition. Jessica Field explores prefab promises and pitfalls and 70 years of life on the estate.

Join historian Dr Jessica Field for a talk about the architecture and social history of Oulton's National Coal Board housing estate – a prefab Airey neighbourhood made famous by a recent campaign to prevent demolition and tenant eviction.

The Architecture of Methley

The Methley Archive will once again share some of their extensive local collection at Rivers Meet Cafe for Heritage Open Days.

Through photographs, drawings and descriptions you will discover some of the remarkable architecture in Methley over the years. Many of the buildings are long gone but some have been repurposed over time to suit more modern tastes.

Come and Sing with Leeds Festival Chorus: extracts from Brahms Requiem

Experience one of Leeds most prestigious choirs as they rehearse and then perform the beautiful melodies of Brahms German Requiem in German.

Under the leadership of the renowned Artistic Adviser and Conductor Simon Wright, choruses from Brahms' Requiem will be learned, finishing with an informal performance. Music will be provided for those without copies. You can book to sing with the Chorus or join the audience without booking for the performance.
