Alternative news and views - Leeds Other Paper remembered, Tony Harcup

presented by The Thoresby Society.

Half a century has passed since the birth of Leeds Other Paper, an alternative local newspaper that uncovered many of the city’s less told stories. LOP lasted from 1974 to 1994, during which time it reported on social, political, economic and cultural life in Leeds from an alternative perspective. Run by a co-operative and existing on a shoestring, the paper gave a voice to many individuals and communities who felt ignored, patronised or even demonised by more mainstream media.

Tiny Totley Studio

Discover the Tiny Totley Studio at Leeds Central Library during the Festival of Play and Creativity!

The Tiny Totley Studio is the creation of play-inspired artist Stephanie Jeffries and features a slide, a den, tactile objects and a sound installation unique to the building. Its introduction has brought new life to the early years area of the Children's Library, which still has a brilliant range of diverse book titles for under fives.

The Enduring Appeal and Fear of Indexicality and Origins

Join us in the newly refurbished Seminar Room at Henry Moore Institute to hear from Ryan Bishop as he takes a sideways look at Hany Armanious: Stone Soup.

Using our current exhibition as a springboard, he will consider some strands of Western philosophical and aesthetic traditions as they pertain to representation, mimesis, the metaphysics of presence, technology, and simulation.
