Portrait Painting with Luke Thompson

Under the careful guidance of Luke, you will study old master paintings to gain an insight into how they used light and shadow to create atmosphere, depth, and emotion within the portrait.

Over the course of the day, you will complete a portrait painting through developing your observational drawing skills, your painting technique, and your understanding of colour and colour mixing.

You will gain a strong understanding of light and shadow, proportion, and bringing your own individual expression to the portrait, with guidance and tuition along the way.

Still Life Drawing and Painting with Luke Thompson

Learning methods of drawing and painting from observation, you will develop ideas of composition, lighting the subject, and various painting techniques. There will also be an introduction to colour mixing, and how to match colour naturally using a limited palette.

By the end of the session you will have completed a full still life painting, and will receive guidance and tuition throughout the day to develop your own creative approach. The workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

Please note - this workshop is only suitable for adults 18+

The day takes you through several different techniques, with absolutely no drawing skills necessary! You’ll learn how to create realistic and more abstract designs and consider how to turn them into pieces of artwork. Although no embroidery will take place during the workshop, you’ll leave with a range of designs ready to turn into artwork.

Working with Tyvek with Louise Goult

Tyvek and Lutrador are a type of spun paper that is used for many purposes as well as to create interesting and unique textile artwork.

Tyvek and Lutrador can be painted and coloured, with the medium chosen for this affecting how they react to heat. Tyvek and Lutrador can be cut up and stitched, again the way that this is done affects the reaction to heat.
