Stopping at landmarks around the city, local expert Mike narrates you through interesting information and fun facts. From the grand opening of the Civic Hall and drama involving the Queen that day, to the English Civil War battle on Briggate, there are lots of stories to tell on this tour.​

Sharan Hunjan: In conversation

Sharan Hunjan is a poet and teacher from London. She is part of the literary collective 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE, whose first collaborative book was published by FEM Press, and has had work published in the poetry anthology Slam! You’re Gonna Wanna Hear This (Pan MacMillan 2020). 

She published her pamphlet, ‘Hatch’, as part of the 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE publication with Rough Trade Books in 2020. 

With 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE she has performed at Stoke Newington Literary Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, British Library and Tate and appeared in British Vogue. 

Helen Lederer: Not That I’m Bitter

Helen Lederer was a regular on the stand-up circuit and new-wave sketch shows in the decade that launched the careers of today’s comedy household names and national treasures.

From the iconic Absolutely Fabulous to Bottom,  Happy Families,  Naked Video,  French and Saunders and Girls on Top; it is difficult to think of a comedy show that Helen wasn’t a part of. So... plain sailing then? Well, not really.

Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip

Mik Artistik is a poet, performer, artist and comedian . With his compadre Jonny Flockton on guitar, and a selection of well heeled bass players, they hypnotise audiences with their special brand of joyous madness. Delightful, frightening, strange and hysterically funny, Mik throws shapes and straws, and croons like a dream - sometimes. Jonny holds him in check with forceful, elegant and sublime guitar work. Iggy Pop proclaimed their song 'Sweet Leaf of the North' ‘the song of the decade’ on NPR, and often features the band regularly on his 6Music Show 'Iggy Confidential'.

Oisin Leech

Beside Trawbreaga Bay, in Co. Donegal, on the north coast of Ireland, in an old schoolhouse, with a suitcase full of hired recording gear, Oisin Leech strums gently on an acoustic guitar and watches the tide pull the water away from this ancient inlet. The thickness of Oisin’s voice soothes the old world room as the sound waves bounce around in the land where his ancestors still live and still wander.
