Charity Shop Disco | October

We are so excited to have teamed up with the awesome Charity Shop Disco a Yorkshire-based DJ collective with a shared love of vinyl and charity shop treasure-hunting.

They've grown a joyful, inclusive community event where music lovers of all backgrounds can come together to spin records, dance, and connect.

Six guest DJs will be invited to play an all-vinyl, 25 minute set of genre-spanning music.

CoLab North

Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) and the Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund (BBCF)  present CoLab North - an artist development programme providing four choreographers with a funded opportunity to explore their practice over a nine-day choreographic lab.

CoLab North is a paid opportunity for artists based in Northern England and engaged in diverse dance practices and interdisciplinary approaches, to nurture their choreographic study and receive industry specialist mentorship.

Go Figure - Monthly Self-Led Life Drawing (September)

Come and join us for a fun and friendly life drawing session. Go Figure is a regular event held here at Swarthmore, look out for it every first Thursday of the month!

There will be no tutor leading this session but it will be hosted by a member of the Swarthmore team. There are a number of easles and drawing boards available to use, but do feel free to bring your own.

There will be a rotation of both male and female life models and on occassion we will have multiple models in the same session.

Pattern Cutting Intro and Dressmaking Pattern Adapting Workshop with Alison Teece UK

Do you want to improve your pattern cutting/making skills?

This is an opportunity for you to learn the fundamentals of pattern cutting and making including pattern drafting techniques such as dart manipulation, style line, add flair to skirts and yolks. In addition, your fabulous tutor Alison will offer deomonstations covering simple pattern designs.

You will be shown practical skills in this subject and will be introduced to essentials tools of the trade such as pattern masters, awls, pracing wheels and how to correctly utilise notches.

Making a much-anticipated return, Slung Low Shorts returns with five new plays from both established and first-time writers along with a talented company of actors from West Yorkshire. The weekend of performances promises to be an essential part of the summer theatre in Leeds

With a deliberately unpretentious approach to theatre, the Slung Low Shorts team promise a night of ‘no risk’ theatre in the informal space of The Warehouse at Holbeck.

Life Drawing with Ellie Andrews

Join us for a 3 week life drawing course with Leeds Drawing Club founder Ellie Andrews.

This workshop is designed for those who are interested in learning about different approaches to life drawing and who are looking to build upon their existing skills by using the opportunity to draw 1 long pose each week. Ideal for those who have some experience in life drawing, but beginners are also very welcome. (For absolute beginners we recommend our brilliant Intro to Life Drawing Course with Tessa Houghton).

Drawing Heads and Faces

Tutored drawing session focussing on the Head.

Working with a life model for One Pose throughout the session.

Learning and understanding the positioning of facial features and skull structure using comparative measuring.

Looking at examples of how other artists have approached drawing a head and portraiture in their work, and exploring your own personal approach to mark making.

Experimenting with different ways of applying charcoal and pencil to reveal character and feeling.

Intro to Life Drawing 6 Week Course

Running on Tuesday evenings from 9th September – 14th October 2025, this 6 week, fully tutored course offers an exploration into the various techniques and methods used to depict the human figure.

Working with a life model, each of the 6 sessions will focus on a different subject, for example: quick gestural drawings, Chiaroscurro (the study of light and dark tonal values), measured drawing or negative space.
