Yorkshire: A Trans History

The Collector’s Cabinet will host a display case curated by GossipGrrrl looking at Yorkshire’s transgender history.

Featuring Bronze Age Hull, Roman Age Catterick and York, Edwardian Era Bradford, Wartime Wakefield and 70s Leeds - we can see trans people have been a part of Yorkshire longer than there has been a Yorkshire to be a part of!

Special Tour: In Search of the Tudor House

Join us for a programme of special tours exploring fascinating elements of Temple Newsam’s rich and varied history.  From the civil wars to costume, and controversies to civil engineering these tours promise to reveal a different side to this magnificent house.

These tours will last between 1-1.5hrs.  Meeting point is the Great Hall, unless otherwise stated. Cost for the tours is £5 (plus house admission)

Insights Lectures: Feast and Famine

The Great Irish Famine had a devastating impact on the population of Ireland, particularly the poor and destitute, who despite their suffering were treated with disdain and contempt. One million people died, and hundreds of thousands were forced to seek relief in the workhouse. The skeletal remains of those who died give testimony to their excruciating hardship and toil, but also of resistance and communal identity.

Revive, Repair, Re-use: Stories of Sustainability

Revive, Repair, Re-use is a co-curated volunteer display at Abbey House Museum. Telling stories of sustainability and how it has long been a part of our lives, but is now more important than ever.

Come to see some of the sustainable practices people in Leeds have used throughout the generations, and those which still happen today. From make do and mending, to growing food and making the best use of available resources on our doorstep.

Re:loaded

Guns are powerful weapons. They can be loaded with meaning, as well as bullets. 

Throughout history to the present day, guns have been embellished and intricately decorated; plated in gold and covered with diamonds.

As objects of art, they have been used to campaign for peace, as tokens of love and desire, and as diplomatic gifts between nations.

This thought-provoking pop-up exhibition asks us to reconsider the symbolism of guns.
