Striking with Pride for LGBT History Month

Join us at Hyde Park Picture House for an LGBT+ History event to kick off our TWENTIETH anniversary year!

We're screening two great queer history films:

2:30pm: BECAUSE OF YOU: A History of Kilawin Kolektibo (34m)

This hybrid experimental documentary traces the history of Kilawin Kolektibo, a pioneering collective of Filipnxs who came together in NYC in the mid-nineties.

3:00pm: STRIKING WITH PRIDE: United at the Coalface (1hr15m)

Scalarama Leeds First Meeting, Fundraiser and Film Screening of El Cine Soy Yo

Come along to our first meeting of 2025 on Thursday 20 February from 6PM at The Tetley. The meeting will last roughly an hour and will be a general hello and information about the festival will be given to both newcomers and returning programmers to Scalarama Leeds.

If you are brand new to Scalarama, don't worry! Everything will be explained in the meeting about how it all works and we are a very friendly bunch. You are not expected to bring anything or have any ideas for your possible future events at this point.

Game Changer - Premiere Screening

Game Changer tells the remarkable story of Gian Singh Virdi, who after emigrating to England in 1962, played international hockey, experienced the shocking events of the 1972 Munich Olympics and became Yorkshire County Cricket Club's first non-white coach in 1989.

Decades later and now 80 years old, Gian embraces his final challenge – to inspire a small, village cricket club on the brink of folding to challenge for league and cup success.

A licensed bar and a range of snacks (samosas, bhajis, spring rolls and biryani) will be available.

Project Farsley Film Night: The Square

Double-Palmes-winner Ruben Östlund delivers a knife-sharp satire on art, culture and communication in the digital age. Starring Claes Bang (The Bridge), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale, Mad Men) and Dominic West (The Wire), The Square won the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Christian (Bang) is a divorced and distracted father of two, and the respected curator of a contemporary art museum in Stockholm. He's gearing up to launch their next show, ‘The Square’, a daring installation examining altruism and our duty to help others.
