Celf Ar Waliau Exhibition

Join us for our inaugural exhibition, Celf Ar Waliau. This special event will feature the incredible talents of contemporary artists from Leeds, showcasing a diverse array of artwork, including textured sculptures, mixed media, painting, and photography. Each piece tells a story, blending humour, sadness, and everything in between.

John Hoyland: Imaginary Beings

Born in Sheffield, John Hoyland (1934–2011) achieved international recognition as an abstract painter, known for his powerful large-scale images, full of energy and feeling. In 1994, in the lead-up to his sixtieth birthday, he made his only mature group of sculptures. Working at the Royal College of Art in London, he produced around 25 ceramic works, which he described as “these mad little hybrids”. Our new display focuses on this body of work, bringing together a selection of sculptures shown in conversation with related paintings.

The Traumatic Surreal

Marking the centenary of Surrealism, The Traumatic Surreal explores the appropriation and development of surrealist sculptural traditions by women artists in German-speaking countries after World War II.

Co-curated with Professor Patricia Allmer (University of Edinburgh) and based on her book The Traumatic Surreal, the exhibition brings together work by Renate Bertlmann, Birgit Jürgenssen, Bady Minck, Meret Oppenheim, Pipilotti Rist, Ursula (Schultze-Bluhm) and Eva Wipf to explore their potent and multiple critiques of patriarchy.

Lunchtime Conversation w/ Annabelle Richmond-Wright

For the majority of exhibitions at BasementArtsProject we run a 'Lunchtime Conversation' in which the exhibiting artist is invited to a home cooked community meal around the kitchen table.

We only ever offer 10 tickets -all of which are free - as that is all I can fit around the table comfortably.

Get to know the artist and chat about Art, Life, The Universe and so much more...

Art Roundhay Park Winter Show + Christmas Shop

Art Roundhay Park, a hidden gem within the heart of Roundhay Park.

With new original artwork and prints, and, for this season only, Christmas gifts by artists and makers from the North of England; a total of 40 artists and creators taking part!

The theme is inspired by the natural beauty of Roundhay Park, the Yorkshire coastline and landmarks in Yorkshire. We've asked the artists to explore many different mediums, textures, colourways, but always with nature in mind.
