Create Your Own Terrarium

This two hour workshop includes:

An introduction to terrariums

Briefing on choice of materials, terrarium dynamics and aftercare

Demonstration and hands on making

Take home your creation

These courses will be conducted by Amarah, a surgeon by profession, who has temporarily taken a step back from the operating room, to spend more time with family and explore her creative side as a terrarium artist.  At present she designs these gorgeous ecosystems and runs a small business by the name of Sow Deep Biospheres.

Beginners Candle Making Workshop

Ideal for anyone new to candle making.  You can enjoy learning how to make your own soy wax candles and tealights.  Working at a relaxed pace and choosing from various aromas you will make two x tin container candles and a set of six tealights.  These are yours to keep (once they’ve cured).

Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention, all materials, equipment and tuition are included in the price.

On the day all you need to do is turn up and enjoy.

Arts United Project at Swarthmore

This fun FREE arts based project is for adults who have additional learning support needs and live in the Leeds area. You will explore different creative techniques with tutor Clair Thompson and there will be an exhibition and celebration event in September.

All of the art sessions are free and all materials are provided. The sessions will have additional support from our LSA and volunteers.

There are two sessions to choose from (an morning session, or an afternoon session).

Song Writing Taster Workshops

Open to anyone aged 11- 18, Leeds Library and Cloth Cat invite you to a Songwriting taster session led by tutor Sean Howe.

In this one-off session, we will explore choosing a theme, writing lyrics and structuring a song. Whilst Sean specialises in alternative music, all styles of music will be catered for at the workshop, no matter what genre you're into.

Mika and the Polar Bear - Theatre Workshop

This 45 minute practical workshop will use story telling, dance and props to test and explore creative ideas with children aged 4-11 for a new dance theatre show called Mika and The Polar Bear that will be touring the North of England this year.

Workshop participants are invited to join two members of the Coalesce Dance Theatre team to explore how the weather impacts our main character Mika and their Polar Bear friend.

Thackray Lates: My Bloody Valentine

For one night only, expect our building to be pumping with a programme filled with the red stuff (and we don’t mean roses). Join us for an anti-valentine evening like no other, one that embraces the visceral life force of all beating hearts: blood!

This Thackray Late will be in full flow, with our usual blend expert talks and hands-on demonstrations, plus crafts, performances, and a chance to get up close to bloody brilliant objects from our museum collection.

Processing Emotion through Nature and Surrealism

A free workshop at Henry Moore Institute.

Join artist Kaitlyn Bullen to explore your personal experience of Surrealism and trauma. Using natural objects for inspiration, we'll focus on writing and drawing to create connections to Henry Moore Institute’s current exhibition The Traumatic Surreal.

Emphasising process over product, this workshop will be a safe space, which encourages self-expression and community.

Suitable for adults aged 18 and above.

Let's engage our senses and share our journeys through art together

Half Term: Blood and Beats

Did you know your brain contains 400 miles of blood vessels? That’s like running from Thackray Museum to Land’s End! And while you’re reading this, your body’s already made 26 million red blood cells—impressive, right?

This February half-term is all about blood – what exactly is it, and what does it do? Take part in science shows, trails, craft activities and - if you’re feeling brave – our infamous hands-on heart dissection workshops!

Hands On: Heart Dissections

Ever wanted to try your hand at surgery? Our popular series of hands-on experiences for families is back for a limited time this half term.

Every day the average heart beats approximately 115,000 times as it pumps over 2,000 litres of blood around your body. Our team of experts will talk you through the inner workings of this vital organ, in this unique opportunity for families to step into the shoes of a medical student and find out first-hand what it’s like to dissect a real heart*.

Sketching Queer History: Leeds LGBT History Month Sketch Walk

The theme for this year’s LGBT History Month is Activism and Social Change.

Led by local historian and artist Clifford Stead, join Leeds Sanctuary as we learn about the activists who have made Leeds a safer place for LGBTQ+ people throughout history, and sketch key landmarks as we go.

We'll be meeting on the 27th of February at 5.30pm outside Mill Hill Chapel in City Square (LS1 5EB), please sign up so we know how many people to expect, and to keep an eye out for you!
