Kids Breakin' with B-boy Litefoot

Bring the kids along to our Breakin’ classes with Bboy Litefoot.

Over the weeks, your child will learn the different levels that make up the dance we call Breakin’ -  from TopRock, Go Downs, Footwork patterns and Freezes. They'll have loads of fun learning the moves and being creative with it. They'll also make friends, build their confidence and get to know and understand Hip Hop culture.

Martin Green: Mixed Instrument Workshop

Suitable for any instruments, this is a hands-on, get-stuck-in workshop.

Best suited to people who have been playing for at least three years. Join Lau accordionist Martin Green for a workshop on arranging traditional music. If you play in a folk band, or would like to, this is an opportunity to come and hear a bit about how Lau create their arrangements, and devise new ones with the group.

Go Figure - Monthly Self-Led Life Drawing

Come and join us for a fun and friendly life drawing session. Go Figure is a regular event held here at Swarthmore, look out for it every first Thursday of the month!

There will be no tutor leading this session but it will be hosted by a member of the Swarthmore team. There are a number of easles and drawing boards available to use, but do feel free to bring your own.

There will be a rotation of both male and female life models and on occassion we will have multiple models in the same session.

Onisere and the Ballet Queen - Dance and Storytelling Workshop

"So what you’re saying is that there have been loads of Black ballet dancers…"

Onisere wants to be a ballet dancer but there’s just one problem: she’s Black and she’s never seen any other ballet dancers who look like her. Enter, the ballet queen, Simbira, who takes Onisere, and her annoying, football mad little brother Tayo, on a fantastical journey through the history of Black British ballet.

Join Black British Ballet for a fun filled session of dance and storytelling to find out more about the black dancers who blazed a trail through British ballet! 

Healthcare Heroes

It’s time to don your cape and celebrate the real-life superheroes making a difference every day.

This bank holiday, we’re hosting a trail around the museum, exploring stories of medical innovation. If you can spot all the you’ll come away with a coveted Thackray certificate.

We’ll also give you the chance to craft your own superhero-style mask with our free complimentary make and take. What will your super health power be?

Zine-Making Workshop

Explore the art of zine-making in the gorgeous setting of the Leeds Library.

You’ll be introduced to what a zine is: a DIY, creative, experimental way of putting together words and images, which can be about whatever you want.

The workshop leader will demonstrate different ways of folding paper to make a classic zine format. Then we will work with collage, stamps, stencils and cut n’ paste to make a unique zine.

For inspiration, you will be able to look through a collection of zines, or find ideas from everything surrounding you in the library.

Somatic Workshop: DancingStrong Movement Lab

We invite you to discover synergies of movement and energy through breath, and gentle, intentional tapping on the energy centers of the body. Through touch 'tapping' and guided improvised movement we initiate a profound dialogue between mind and body, inspiring intuitive movement exploration.

Our somatic movement workshop focuses on individual exploration through improvisation in community with open ots to explore in weal me previous dance experience is necessary, but an interest in movement and an openness to explore is welcomed.

Make a Spinning Ring in a Day with Toby Cotterill

In this session you’ll craft your own unique, silver spinning ring to take home with you. During the session you’ll cover basic jewellery making techniques including annealing, piercing, texturing, soldering and polishing, to create a ring with up to two spinning bands, in a choice of texture and materials.

Some people use these kinetic rings as a form of meditation as you can rotate the inner band/s and take a mindful moment for yourself.

Get help from others, delve into the inspirational Art Library  books and resources. Start something new, share a skill or simply find a space to get on with your craft and listen to a great playlist.

AutistiCon 2024: A Leeds Autism Event

AutistiCon is a free autism information event. It will have information on a range of services for autistic people in Leeds of all ages. The event will have information stalls for local groups working with autistic people, guest speakers, an art exhibition featuring work from local autistic artists and a quiet room.

It is being organised by Leeds Autism Services, The Advonet Group, Specialist Autism Services, Forum Central, Leeds City Council and Lighthouse Futures Trust.
