Join SkillShed: our FREE 6 week course turning waste timber into a bike shed to donate to a community organisation!
Each SkillShed will last 6 weeks, running on Tuesdays from 9.30 - 3pm. We have 10 spaces per cohort.
In each cohort participants will process timber collected by the LWR collections team, learn basic woodwork skills, have access to additional optional training such as CPC accredited micro qualifications and SEN training, whilst being part of a team constructing bike sheds.
We hope to promote biking as an alternative to cars, improving public health and reducing emissions, and will donate one shed from each cohort to local schools, non-profits, asylum centres or community groups supporting our community.
Through the project we hope to reuse 50% more timber inhouse than we did in 2024.
What the project involves:
Participants will learn how to process timber collected by the LWR collections team (pallet breaking, denailing, handtool skills).
Learn basic woodwork skills - drill training, sawing, identifying types of wood.
Learn how to use the orbital and belt sander.
Have access to training such as CPC accredited micro qualifications and SEN training.
Feeling happy! And part of team constructing bike sheds
