Threads Textile Festival

Sunny Bank Mills’ annual Textile Festival, Threads is back for its second instalment! 

Threads will take place across the site of Sunny Bank Mills over the weekend of 7th-9th June 2024. 

Alongside the market in the 1912 Mill with 40+ textile stalls each day, there is an extensive programme of workshops and talks.

After a successful inaugural festival last year, Threads Textile Market is back this year for a full three days. Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June 2024.

Open 10am – 4pm on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June.

A memoir is a narraive written from your perspective, which can be about an important aspect of your life. As well as being an empowering personal journey, writing a memoir can help you share priceless life experiences so that they can inspire others.

Where to start and how to structure your memoir.

Chris will be on hand to offer expert writing tips and will guide you through the process of memoir writing.

Introduction to Macramé - Make a Plant Hanger with Hannah Sibai

Join Hannah for a fun filled evening where you'll learn the basic priciples of macramé.

You'll be guided through several different knots and techniques that can even be used afterwards for other macramé projects!

At the end of the workshop you'll have created your very own plant hanger to take home with you!

Introduction to Crochet - Make a Granny Square with Ingrid

Join Ingrid on this beginner friendly crochet workshop where you will be introduced to the world of fibre arts and taught the foundations of crocheting, before working through the individual steps to create a traditional crocheted Granny Square.

You will take your work and skills home, and some inspiration of where your crochet journey may lead next!

Ingrid has been crocheting for several years and recommends it to everyone she meets.

This month we have a Foodie edition of the Leeds Zine Library Lates exploring themes around food and recipes. Bring your best loved recipe to share for the recipe zine! Make a zine about your favourite dish, a family meal from your hometown, favourite takeaway or a tv chef's latest offering. We will be creating fabric food good enough to eat and looking at Leeds Libraries cookbooks for inspiration.

Explore Iyengar Yoga in four weeks!

Perfect for beginners and those revisiting foundations. All levels welcome, with modifications/props provided if needed:

Course Outline:

Alignment: Intro to Iyengar yoga, dynamic standing poses.
Balance: Build on foundations, focus on balancing poses.
Strength: Shoulder poses, twists, basic back bending actions.
Relaxation: Seated poses, restorative yoga, basic yogic breathing.

SEND Next Choices 2024 - Getting ready for adult life

SEND Next Choices - Getting ready for adult life is returning to Leeds first direct arena .

The event is an opportunity for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents, carers, support workers and teachers to prepare themselves for adult life. You will be able to find out about jobs, training, apprenticeships, college courses, voluntary work, leisure activities, finances, support and benefits available in Leeds. Over 60 organisations will be there on the day with support and information.

Wild Play

Set up camp for a day of wildness in the woods at TCV Skelton Grange...

Activities will vary from session to session depending on the season and the group - but past Wild Play days have included:

Wide games, shelter building, fire lighting, campfire cooking, field games, hammock hanging, wild food walks, woodwork crafts, string making, bows and arrows, stalking and tracking, pyro-carving and charcoal making.

The cost per child is £30 (+ Eventbrite booking fee) and includes a day of outdoor games and bushcraft activities led by experienced leaders.
