‘Stand’ing with Flamboyance

‘Stand’ing with Flamboyance is the debut collaboration between Pyramid and Flamingos Coffee House. The exhibition’s title is a pun – ‘stand’ and ‘flamboyance’ are terms used to describe a group of flamingos. It explores different art pieces by artists in and around Leeds who identify as LGBTQIA* and/or disabled, bringing together interconnecting communities/groups of people.

Third Class - A Titanic Story

A one-man theatre show based on the life of gay Titanic survivor, Edward Dorking playing at Slung Low Theatre in Leeds.

Edward was gay. Openly gay, and on Wednesday, April 10th, 1912, he set sail for NYC on a ticket bought for him by his parents in the hope his American family could put him ‘right’.

Third Class charts Edward’s journey from boarding the Titanic to swimming for 30 minutes towards an already full collapsible lifeboat and how he, upon arriving in New York, would tour the Vaudeville circuit, recreating the stories for a fact-hungry public.

Crossing

Levan Akin’s third feature is a touching portrayal of the connections between us that transcend borders and generations.

Lia, an irascible retired teacher from Georgia, learns from her young neighbour, Achi, that her transgender niece, Tekla, has crossed the border into Turkey. In search of Tekla, Lia travels to Istanbul with the unpredictable and perennially hungry Achi, where, making an unlikely partnership, they explore the hidden depths of the city.
