Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story

This event is the opening film for Leeds Queer Film Festival 2025.

A star is reborn. With an outsize stage presence that eclipsed R&B greats like Etta James and Little Richard, Black trans soul singer Jackie Shane was the real deal.

After mysteriously vanishing from public view for almost 40 years, this little-known icon is given her ultimate due in Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee’s remarkable documentary portrait Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, executive produced by Elliot Page.

Fix Your Hearts Or Die: Transgender Day of Visibility show

"When you became Denise, I told all of your colleagues, those clown comics, to fix their hearts or die." - Gordon Cole, 2017.

Poltergeist Promotions' gig celebrating some of Leeds' finest transgender alternative musicians for Transgender Day of Visibility 2025 at Wharf Chambers. We're hoping to get angry and fix some hearts together. Featuring the Teesside protest singer-songwriter That Clare, the banterous Football Crazy, pop-rock bangers from National Citizens, and lo-fi emo tunes from Shaene.

LGBT History Month - what now?

LGBT History Month is almost over and once again it has been wonderful to see the events taking place to recognise and celebrate it.

It is my eternal hope that events like these not only provide opportunities for connection in the here and now, but also inspire people to investigate all the things that have come before them and have also shaped both the world they live in and the people they have become and will continue growing to be. It seems so true that to understand where you need to go and what you need to do, knowing where you have come from is important.

Queer-ying the Museum

Everyone is welcome to join in at the Royal Armouries at our Queer-ying the museum event to celebrate the end of LGBTQ+ history month, which explores the Royal Armouries collection through a queer perspective.

From a museum mansplaining drag king and self-defence workshop, to queer history tours of our collection and thought-provoking talks, there’s a host of activities for everyone to enjoy.

Let's Talk Fostering and Adoption

This in-person Barnardo's event will give you the chance to learn more about fostering and adoption, meet the Barnardo's team, as well as hear from LGBT+ foster carers and adopters.

During this event there will be several opportunities to hear directly from our incredible foster carer and adopter community about their own journeys, as well as time to ask them any questions you may have.
