Solomon tells the story of Simeon Solomon, a Queer Jewish Pre-Raphaelite painter. The play delves into Solomon's journey of self-discovery, set against the backdrop of a Victorian world characterised by harsh judgment.
As Solomon grapples with his own sexuality within a society bound by conservative norms, he finds solace in unexpected friendships with individuals such as Henry Holiday, Edward Burne-Jones, Oscar Browning, and Algernon Charles Swinburne.
The play unfolds as Solomon navigates the complexities of his desires and aspirations, all the while existing in a world that casts a critical eye upon those who deviate from societal expectations.
Solomon, written by Stuart Eggleton, debuted at Tsitsit Festival 2023 before further development at the Royal Academy of Art. Directed by Joseph Winer.
This production is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
