Rush Hour Jazz with Richard Scott-Martin Briggs Quartet

Sax player Richard Scott and guitarist Martin Briggs have graced the local Leeds jazz and improvised music scene for many years playing in other people’s bands – including Leeds street band Bassa Bassa and the Instant World Orchestra. Here they play some of their own music – a mixture of jazz tunes, improvised classical music and popular songs, at our Rush Hour Jazz

The Northern Swing Orchestra Big Band and Lucy Dolling

Swing Into Sunday with The Northern Swing Orchestra! Featuring the Sensational 16-Piece Big Band and Lucy Dolling, joining us for the first time!

Lucy is currently studying at Leeds Conservatoire, alongside being a violinist and bassist, she sings multiple genres of music, such as jazz, pop, soul, R&B and musical theatre. Lucy's influences include singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Raye.

Come and unwind with us with a lovely afternoon of Big Band music.

Chris Ingham Trio: The Jazz Of Dudley Moore

Beloved comic actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) was also a dazzling jazz pianist and a composer of wit and depth. The Chris Ingham Trio revisits Dudley’s evocative and appealing 1960s jazz in rich, rewarding presentation packed with striking music and fascinating anecdotes.

This acclaimed show been warmly received at Ronnie Scott’s and in concerts and festivals throughout the UK while the group’s CD Dudley received rave reviews fulsomely approving the overdue celebration of a remarkable British musician.

Topaz are a contemporary jazz group led by Chapel Allerton sax player and singer Cathy Ibberson with Lucy Smickersgill on trombone,  Chris Young/ Alison Innes saxes, Phil Green trumpet, Sam Clough guitar, Steve Crocker bass, Graham Hefferman drums.

Rush Hour Jazz with Dudley Nesbitt

Trinidad born Dudley Nesbitt is one of the great steelpan pioneers. He plays Trinidadian calypso, Brazilian samba, Bossa Nova, soul tunes, Rumba Cha Cha and Caribbean Jazz. You’ll be smiling and dancing at the rush hour jazz in the Seven Arts bar. Richard Ormrod is also part of the JazzLeeds house band tonight – he’s on drums!

There’s no need to book, just rock up in the bar and take a seat.

The gig is pay as you feel (payf), and all the money donated goes to the performers of that evening.

Benn Clatworthy Quartet. Support from Sophie Speed Quintet

From storming post-Coltrane energy to beautiful ballad playing, Los Angeles-based Benn Clatworthy has matured into a truly great tenor player. A favourite with our JazzLeeds audiences for many years for his emotional playing and his dry sense of humour, supported by a top-class rhythm section, he’ll be playing some tunes from his recent UK release, “The Pursuit”.

“Tales from the Irk” – John Ellis Quartet

John Ellis is a musician from Manchester the north of England. His journey in music blossomed in the free music education system in place around Manchester, U.K. in the 1980s. ​John has played and recorded with quite a few well known artists such as Corinne Bailey Rae, The Cinematic Orchestra 2001-2005, Lily Allen, Tom Jones, Mica Paris,  The Breath, James Yorkston, John Squire (Stone Roses) In the early 1990's he played hundreds of various gigs around Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and the whole of the north.

Rush Hour jazz with Cathy Ibberson (sax) and Jack Glover (piano)

Cathy Ibberson is a Leeds sax player and singer with the “Soul Surgeons” and “Instant World Orchestra” . She’ll be entertaining us with multi talented big band leader and pianist Jack Glover, with the house band of Steve Crocker on bass, Steve Mullarky on drums.
