Stuart Garside and Stuart McDonald quintet - Jazz in the Courtyard

Two superb musicians and entertainers! Vocalist and trombonist Stuart Garside, has plied his musical trade with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK, The New Squadronnaires, The Memphis Belle Orchestra, The Nick Ross Orchestra, The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra, The Kings of Swing and many more including performances at The Royal Albert Hall, Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Warner Leisure Hotels and many years entertaining at sea. Stuart McDonald is a consummate musician.

The Rhythm Section – Jazz in the Courtyard

The Rhythm Section- a new combo to the Leeds music scene. A groove driven, mostly instrumental organ based trio featuring three of the best musicians around – with Ian Rose organ, John Heap bass, and Chapel Allerton’s John Shepard, a veteran drummer, ex-Acoustic Alchemy, smooth jazz Grammy nominated chart toppers in America.
World class musicians, with a set list is full of well known jazz, blues, soul, funk tunes and original material that will delight our audience.

Little Big Band – Jazz in the Seven Arts Courtyard

The first in our summer open air series in the Seven Arts Courtyard – featuring The Little Big Band, playing hits from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and beyond.

The Little Big Band have been playing together since 2007. They play music in a variety of styles; there are songs from the ’30’s from composers such as George Gerswhin and Cole Porter; swing music from the ’40’s with Glenn Miller well represented; The ’50’s and ’60’s music includes many of the songs of Sinatra’s “Rat Pack”. They also give blues and soul favourites from the ’70’s the big band treatment.

Caroline Boaden’s Quintet “Sum of All”, with support from Livia Clementi Quintet

Re arranged from earlier in the year, JazzLeeds are delighted to present for you “Sum of All”- a special commission by Jazzleeds for drummer and educator Caroline Boaden. It features compositions written and played by her group of musicians where the ethos is about collaboration, moving forward and fresh ideas.

BD Lenz Trio

Mix together the styles of Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, and Stevie Ray Vaughan and you have the recipe for contempo-jazz US guitarist B.D. Lenz.

The New Jersey native has played guitar since his early teens, is a graduate of Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and has studied with such masters as Mike Stern, Vic Juris, and Charlie Banacos along the way.

Salsa Como Loco

A 10 piece Salsa Band playing a mix of New York and Cuban Salsa. Set up by members of various bands including The Peace Artistes, Bassa Bassa, Duende, Red Herrings, Small World Band and Bradford Samba band, with an overpowering love of, and desire to play, Cuban style Salsa dance music. The band have been playing for dancers and Latin music audiences around the North of England.

Beverley Beirne at Rush Hour Jazz

We are pleased to welcome to Rush Hour jazz Beverley Beirne, who has headlined festivals and performed at leading clubs throughout the UK and Europe. She recorded her debut album Seasons of Love in 2010, to a hugely positive response, followed by a tour of the album at venues such as Callander Jazz and Blues Festival, Marsden Jazz Festival and Pizza Express, The Pheasantry.

Abtuse

"Abtuse" has built a reputation around the jazz and blues music scene over the past five years as a band playing an exciting and eclectic mix of jazz, fusion, funk, latin and blues.They share a love of variety in live performance, where the unexpected comes from improvisation. They play recognisable classics to lesser known modern music and original material.Come and hear something familiar and something very new!

June Jazz Café and Jam Session

The friendliest jazz jam in town! Come and join in or just enjoy the fun. All styles and levels welcome – vocals and instrumentals – it’s all about the vibe. 

The June jam will be a week earlier than usual – the third Sunday afternoon in the month rather than the final one. 

The Jazz Leeds trio will be there as usual to support all the performers. Veggie food and cafe available.
