Kate Peters Big Band

For our Christmas Party concert, Kate Peters presents an evening of music with her 18 piece big band, paying tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and the great ladies of song with arrangments by Nelson Riddle, George Gershwin, Count Basie, Chicj Webb. Plus some exciting new tunes and a few festive ones too!

Kate Peters is a uniquely talented and versatile vocalist based in the north of England. A graduate of Leeds College of Music, Kate has worked in a wide variety of styles and areas of the music industry.

Misha Mullov Abbado Group

Acclaimed bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado is the son of the Italian conductor Claudio Abbado and Russian violinist Viktoria Mullova. He is a musician who combines great imagination, raw talent tempered by a clear vision, and a colourful character. A prolific composer and arranger, Misha has worked with many top with musicians including Tim Garland, Viktoria Mullova, Rob Luft and Stan Sulzmann.

Regeneration Big Band

The Regeneration Big Band is a formed from the north’s finest jazz musicians – both old and new. Attracting members such as Dale Gibson, Mike Hall, and Robert Howard, the big band thrives on its reputation of dazzling players led by Nigel Ashworth of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra. Nigel set himself the challenge of starting a Big Band that plays all of his own compositions and arrangements – so prepare to hear nothing you’ve heard before, played “exactly how a big band should sound” (Ian Darrington, Wigan Jazz Festival). 

Tessa Smith

Jazz choir fans will know Tessa from her running the JazzVoices and the Chapel Allerton Festival choirs as well as her vocal performances with the Honeybirds and lindy-hopping. For this rush hour jazz she’ll be singing some swinging jazz tunes with the JazzLeeds trio 

Zoe Gilby

Zoë Gilby is a vocalist and songwriter, making a stunning impression on the jazz scene today. Zoe’s concerts include an adventurous blend of contemporary composers from Kate Bush to Pink Floyd and the sensitive treatment of jazz standards – mix of musical sophistication and dramatic edge. Their distinctive sound, follows in the tradition of great English alt pop and progressive rock whilst also reflecting their background in jazz.

Greg Abate with the Gaz Hughes trio

US-based musician of international standing, saxophonist Greg Abate is considered to be amongst the finest jazz players of his generation. After studying at Berklee in the mid 70’s Greg went on tour with the Ray Charles band for two years before once again going on the road in the late 80’s with the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra. Following that experience he established himself as an international soloist, something he has now been successfully doing for the last 25 years working throughout the US, Canada, UK, Western and Eastern Europe and Russia.

Gabriel Latchin Trio play Gershwin

British pianist and composer Gabriel Latchin has made a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest musicians, praised internationally by critics and world-renowned musicians alike. Known for his effortlessly swinging feel and compelling performances, Latchin was recently praised by Dave Gelly in The Guardian as “the best straight-ahead jazz pianist to appear in the past few years.” Jazzwise recently described his playing as “impeccable… the clarity of his lines evoking something of Hank Jones or Tommy Flanagan”.
