Leeds' Queer History Tour - Music & Nightlife

Discover Leeds' queer music & nightlife history on a group walking tour of the city centre.

Where did Soft Cell's Marc Almond hear his first disco tune? Why did people stick money to the floor in The New Penny? And what happened when a bunch of lesbians wanted to start a pool tournament?

Find out, and discover the history of Leeds's queer music and nightlife scenes, on this new walking tour of Leeds City Centre.

When We Ruled - Book Talk + Q&A with Paula Akpan

As part of Queer History Club we are super excited to bring you a conversation, Q&A and book signing with queer writer Paula Akpan.

Paula's debut book, When We Ruled: The Rise and Fall of Twelve African Queens and Warriors, reveals the stories of female rulers whose experiences of gender and sexuality existed outside of Western norms, categories and binaries. They led, loved and fought for their kingdoms and people and their impact can still be felt today. However, beyond the lands they called home, so few of us have heard their names.

Feel Seen - LGBTQ+ Impressionistic Portrait Drawing Workshop

In this workshop you will look at yourself or other participants more closely by drawing a (self-)portrait with oil pastels. The aim is to capture the essence of your subject rather than about getting every detail to look right and take inspiration from impressionistic artists like Monet and Renoir.

If you would like some guidance, I am happy to give any tips and pointers.

Oil pastels and paper are provided but feel free to bring your own materials. I will also bring a small mirror for self portraits but you can use photographs for references as well.
