More About Shivani:
I am Shivani, a dancer- choreographer based in Leeds. My practice centres around the Indian dance style of Kathak. As a contemporary practitioner of a classical artform, I take a fluid approach to Kathak. This allows me to take inspiration from its history all the while searching for the contemporary expressions it offers. I also incorporate my training in Yoga, Somatics, Ballet and Contemporary Dance. This interdisciplinary and intercultural approach has allowed me to experience the ‘Rasa’ of Life, and I am keen to share it with as many people as I can regardless of their background. Before moving to the UK to pursue my MA in Dance and Creative Enterprise at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, I lived and worked in Mumbai, India. Here, I was involved in several public and private events including awards functions, TV programmes, and Arts Festivals. Currently a DYCP grantee, I am establishing myself as a creative entrepreneur with the support of the Prince’s Trust.
