Celebrate a brand new animation by SASHA (Students Against Sexual Harassment & Assault), inspired by activism in the archives.
Interested in art, activism, or both? Join SASHA (Students Against Sexual Harassment & Assault) for the premiere of ‘Missed Call’, and an inspiring evening of art, history, and collaboration.
'Missed Call' is a 4-minute, hand-drawn animation. It highlights the statistical reality of sexual violence. It was created by Shania Bowie and Imogen Harvey-Lewis, in collaboration with SASHA. Commissioned by Cultural Collections & Galleries, the film responds to 'Animated Activism: Women Empowered', currently on display in Treasures of the Brotherton.
'Animated Activism: Women Empowered' is a vivid account of a half-century’s struggle for women’s rights. The exhibition explores the vital work of Women's Aid and Leeds Animation Workshop, told through their own archives.
This free event is a unique opportunity to experience activism through art, past and present. The evening will begin in Treasures of the Brotherton, with an exclusive chance to explore the exhibition after hours. We will then move to the Riley Smith Theatre in Leeds University Union for a 6:30 PM screening of 'Missed Call'. Following the film, there will be an opportunity to connect with other changemakers or creatives over a collage activity.
We look forward to welcoming you!
