If you are aged 14 - 21 you could be part of an amazing playwriting opportunity, with the chance for the winner to have their play read and rehearsed by professional actors.

New Views is the National Theatre’s playwriting programme for young people wanting to learn and develop their playwriting talents.

The House with Chicken Legs author Sophie Anderson on the magical stage adaptation at Leeds Playhouse this month.

For a long time the bestselling children’s author didn’t think she would find an audience for her work, “I’d been writing for ten years, mainly for my own children, and purely for the love of it,” she says.

So when her YA novel The House with Chicken Legs was accepted for publication, and quickly became a hit, it came as something of a surprise.

LEEDS 2023: Free acting course & performance opportunity for young people

LEEDS 2023 has partnered with National Youth Theatre, Leeds Playhouse and Compass Collective to provide a free ten-day acting course for young people across Leeds and West Yorkshire. Everyone who has completed the course will get to take part in a large-scale immersive outdoors performance about climate change later in September, as a part of a LEEDS 2023 signature event.
