Fragment and Form: Emii Alrai, Mónica Mays, Dominique White

For centuries, sculpture has been a site of encounter between history, myth and materials. Fragment and Form continues this by bringing together three contemporary artists Emii Alrai (b. 1993), Mónica Mays (b. 1990), Dominique White (b. 1993) in an exhibition that explores heritage, displacement and the ways in which personal and collective histories are preserved, marginalised and contested through materiality.

Many Hands

Many Hands is Sunny Bank Mills Gallery’s first major group photography exhibition. Created in collaboration with Working Class Creatives, the show explores the role that industry plays in shaping community, identity and tradition. The exhibition weaves together stories of working-class people from the 70s to present, through the lens of a selection of UK based artists.

POO!

Welcome to the number one exhibition on number twos.

This summer, we’re lifting the lid on bums, tums and stinky science to answer your most potty-mouthed questions about poo!

Through recreated smells (oh yes!), touch and discovery, POO! will flush out the science behind one of the body’s most remarkable (and messy) functions.

Why does poo smell? What colour should it be? How much poo is there in the world? This fun and fascinating family exhibition gets to the bottom of digestion, responding to questions from children at Harehills Primary School.

Batiks of Indonesia: Java and beyond

Experience the beauty and variety of Indonesian fabrics in this display of batiks from the Coleman Collection.

Batik, a wax resist method of decorating cloth, has developed as a craft in many parts of Asia and Africa. But it is in Indonesia, and in particular the island of Java, where this technique has reached its height. Indonesian batik is even recognised on UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Now you can discover the stories of these beautiful fabrics, and the cultures and techniques that produced them.

Voice of the Fans: Private Viewing

Join us on the final day of Voice of the Fans for a private viewing of the exhibition. Members of the curatorial team will be on hand to answer any questions and give you an insight into the makings of the exhibition and what comes next.

Tea, coffee and a small selection of biscuits will be provided for attendees to enjoy in our Art Library on the 1st Floor.
