Letterpress Taster – 2 Week Course

Explore the basics of letterpress and work with traditional wood type and metal type to create a series of printed posters and postcards.

You’ll have the opportunity to use our wood type collection to create text and backgrounds using our historic Albion press and galley proofing presses. You’ll also work with our metal type to set your own smaller lines of type and use our Adana presses and equipment.

Bookbinding (Intermediate) – 3 Week Course

Develop your skills in bookbinding on our 3 week intermediate course. Running over 3 sessions on Thursdays 8th, 15th & 22nd May 6:30-9:00pm.

This course will explore slightly more complex forms of bookbinding, including hardback books. You will also gain ideas for future projects to try at home. You will produce some books which take a bit more time, but still at an easy pace and with plenty of support.

Screen Printing Tees & Totes

Explore screen printing onto blank tote bags and t-shirts. This one day workshop will cover;

Preparing imagery for screen printing,

Coating & exposing screens,

Mixing inks,

Screen printing methods,

Heat setting/fixing inks to make them washable,

You’ll come away from the session with some finished products with your own design screen printed onto them and a whole lot of knowledge to continue with your own projects.

Textile Screen Printing

On this one day textile screen printing workshop you will learn how to prepare imagery for screen printing, and how to coat and expose screens using the photo emulsion method. You will explore colour using textile pigment inks and learn how to mix colours for screen printing. You will be encouraged to develop a range of surface pattern prints using layering techniques with a focus on colour, shape and pattern.

Reduction Linocut – 2 Week Course

Explore the reduction method of linocut to create your own multi-layered lino prints. On this two-session evening course you’ll learn how to create a multi-colour lino print. You will develop an edition of lino prints with 2-3 layers of colour using the reduction method of linocut. Your tutor will guide you step by step through the process and you will use oil based inks and our traditional Albion and Imperial presses in the workshop.

The Portrait – 5 Week Course

Explore a range of exciting portrait processes on this five-week course. During the course you will explore and be guided through a variety of techniques for representing the portrait including drawing, monoprint and painting. You’ll explore chiaroscuro in both drawing and monoprinting, will add decorative elements to your prints and learn how to observe and create accurate facial proportions.

Get help from others, delve into the inspirational Art Library  books and resources. Start something new, share a skill or simply find a space to get on with your craft and listen to a great playlist! Gain access to sewing machines, overlocker and cricut.

Zine Making Workshop

Join us as @piierrote hosts a night of zinemaking!

There's no experience required, whether you've made zines a billion times or haven't even heard of them, come along and have some time making a zine about anything you'd like.

Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring along your favourite supplies and pictures of things you love!

Lymphoma Information Day, Leeds

This relaxed and informative event aims to inform, support and connect those affected by lymphoma. Medical professionals will deliver talks on ‘the relationship between the immune system and lymphoma’ and ‘managing cancer related fatigue through daily activity’. A volunteer will share their personal experience of lymphoma, and you’ll have plenty of time throughout the day to ask questions, share your own experiences and find out more about the services and support Lymphoma Action have available.
