We’re delighted to announce our next Radical Reading Room author event, ‘Unlocking Sustainable Cities’ with Paul Chatterton.

Unlocking Sustainable Cities

Esther’s Revenge – Meet the Writers

Lagos based playwright, Kenneth Uphopho offers support to anyone interested in learning how to write a play.

This dialogue based workshop will reveal itself as the medium by which a character comes alive. Discussion and conversation will be a key element of this workshop. You will learn about dramaturgical techniques crucial to writing and performing a play such as ‘Esther’s Revenge’.

Writing Workshop: Light & Shadow

A free workshop, open for everyone, no experience needed, if you prefer, bring your own notebook and pens.

The workshop is a space for free-expression through creative writing. You will be offered to touch vulnerable parts of your soul to itensify the relationship to yourself. You will dive into a process with prompts and exercises crafted for you to deeply connect to your unconsciousness and complex identities.

Hosted by participants Milena amd Miles from @yip17.official.

An evening with ‘Virdee’ creator AA Dhand

Join us for an evening at the Old Woollen as we talk to Bradford based writer A. A. Dhand about his latest adrenaline-filled, compulsive page-turner ‘The Chemist.’ A. A. Dhand is the author of five previous novels, and has been shortlisted for the CWA Steel Dagger Award. His DI Harry Virdee novels are currently being adapted for TV by the BBC. He was raised in Bradford and spent his youth observing the city from behind the counter of a small convenience store.

Poetry Reading and Q&A with Rob Miles and Kath McKay

Join us for this brilliant double-header as two truly distinct and unflinching voices, Rob Miles and Kath McKay, read from their new collections, and explore the creative process in conversation with writer and Senior Librarian Stu Hennigan.

Both Kath and Rob are teachers and will also be keen (indeed nosey) about attendees sharing their own experiences of reading and writing poetry, so there will be a chance for questions from the floor too.

An evening with bestselling author S.J. Parris

We are excited to be able to bring you another fantastic author event in the bookshop. Million copy bestselling historical fiction author S.J. Parris will be joining us to talk about Traitor’s Legacy, the first book of an incredible new historical series.

England, 1598. Queen Elizabeth’s successor remains unnamed. The country teeters on a knife edge.
When a young heiress is found murdered at the theatre, the Queen’s spymaster Robert Cecil calls upon former agent Sophia de Wolfe to investigate.

Craft and Create: Creative Writing.

Join us for a creative writing session at Leeds Discovery Centre, with objects on display to spark inspiration and curiosity. The creative writing session is for anyone who wants to write fiction/non-fiction, plays or poems and is open to all-whether you're an absolute beginner or a more regular writer. We will discuss writing practises and techniques and do some short writing exercises to help develop your skills in a supportive environment.
