Calling the youngest Jazz lovers of Leeds!
Join the PLAY tent at Leeds Art Gallery in this creative immersive workshop. Your young ones will be invited to express themselves creatively with paint whilst listening to the gentle sounds of 'Sketches of Spain' by Miles Davis.
Linked to the forthcoming Lynette Yiadom- Boakye exhibition 'To improvise a mountain', the session will start in the gallery and continue in the Studio.
Suitable for all under 5s the Early Years Atelier of Jazz will be relaxed, friendly and welcoming.
Camilla George is a visionary saxophonist, composer, bandleader and innovator.
Her strong cultural roots and love of fusing African and Western Music has informed her own unique style, a key reason why she is a firm fixture on the new London Jazz scene, alongside peers such as Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings. Her music is a hypnotising blend of Afrofuturism, hip hop and jazz, with a politically minded subtext that has a powerful connection to her Nigerian identity, lineage and heritage, reflecting African history, culture and slavery.
Sultan Stevenson is one of the most exciting young jazz musicians in the UK today. He is a product of both the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy and Tomorrow’s Warriors, from a young age under the tuition of renowned jazz musicians such as Julian Joseph, Gary Crosby, Simon Purcell and Robert Mitchell.

Jembaa Groove hail from Germany and are one of the top Afrofusion acts in Europe today. Co-led by Ghanaian singer and percussion legend Eric Owusu and German bass player and producer Yannick Nolting, the Berlin based outfit has established itself as a top international touring band over the past 3 years, releasing 2 albums ("Susuma" 2022, "Ye! Akansa" 2024), and a brace of singles on Agogo Records, all to great critical acclaim.
DJ Lubi continues his monthly Hyde Park Book Club residency with an Easter Sunday event co-promoted with Leeds hip-hop producer/MC ExP called "Absolutely Made Up". It's a completely improvised, on-the-spot, hip-hop live band jam featuring musicians from ExP's Jamettone collective plus DJ Hashfinger, and showcasing the freestyle talents of top UK MC Jack Flash. It does what it says on the tin.....a one-off, totally improvised set of music and bars that will not be duplicated ever again. Warming up with an MC and DJ session are highly rated Leeds hip-hop duo Oliver Rees and DJ Agent M.
Leeds' top Brazilian music promoter Lubi Jovanovic (DJ Lubi) brings some world class UK musicians to the Brudenell to play some beautiful Brazilian jazz and samba fusion with some special international guests.
Top London world jazz/folk roots/global beats band Me and My Friends are back in the city where it all began a decade and a half ago, Leeds, on Wednesday 9th April as part of their spring 2025 UK tour. They play Brudenell Social Club (once again linking up with the city's leading world music promoter DJ Lubi aka Lubi Jovanovic), for their first show at the venue since spring 2023.
The Wildhearts are an English rock band, formed in 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band's sound is a mixture of hard rock and melodic pop music, often described in the music press as combining influences as diverse as the Beatles and 1980s-era Metallica.
