Remembering What’s Forgotten has launched a new poet in residence opportunity for Leeds-based, emerging poets of black and South Asian heritage who wish to explore and centre lived experience narratives of mental ill health and amplify the importance of racial and social justice.
An eight-week residency, supported by a bursary, the role is open to Leeds residents with lived experience, of all genders and ages, from 18+, to produce an original piece of work.
The 4 Johns bring you “All We’ve Got Time For” their hilarious, innovative, mind-blowing, spoken word comedy show.
Time is running out and there’s a million things to do. The 4 Johns are going to change the world, right all wrongs and start a revolution, just as soon as they’ve updated their socials, finished watching Netflix and stopped playing Minecraft.
Funny, innovative, outspoken, uninhibited and unafraid, the show will make you laugh, cry, think, and laugh again.
Ever wondered where all the time goes?
Live in the Assembly Bar + Kitchen!
Readings by a different local published poet each month and this month we’re delighted to welcome HANNAH STONE
Will Sebag-Montefiore is a satirist who turns the news into sketches and songs and is creating his first solo show 'Will of the People'. Georgie Jones is a poet and performer working on a brand new show about how to stay hopeful. Join them for a night of comedy and spoken word poetry.
They are sharing a night because they both share a deep loved of both maize based snacks and being the centre of attention. Also because their style is nice and fun and cute. You should come!
Looking for a chill space to celebrate Pride and also love to support queer bookshops?
Out + Loud is coming to Leeds for our first ever event in collaboration with The Bookish Type!
Pride Unplugged aims to create a space for queer people to share creativity in a relaxed environment as an alternative to often overstimulating Pride events. To sign up to perform simply email Out + Loud, there will also be a few spaces to sign up on the night if inspiration strikes. The setup will be mic-free, so everything will be acoustic.
Join us at Terminus for this showcase of poetry and spoken word, featuring Meanwood writers Su Ryder and Ian Harker, reading work from their recent books. Your compere is Joe Williams, another local writer and the host of regular poetry night Chemistry. There’s also the chance for you to share a poem or two of your own on our open mic.
This event is part of Meanwood Festival 2024.
Chemistry is back on Friday 26 July, with another night of poetry and spoken word.
We’re doing something a bit different this time – instead of our usual two headliners, we’ll be showcasing five of our regulars, who have all had books out within the last few months. So it’ll be longer sets than usual from familiar faces Bill Fitzsimons, Tonnie Richmond, Colin Day, Kathleen Strafford and Tim Brookes.
Join us at Wellington Place where we’ll be hosting a poetry writing session for adults.
In this hour-long creative workshop you’ll work with our experienced host to practice new techniques as well as developing existing skills sets.
