A Life of its Own

'The significance of human relationships with our tangible, material world has always anchored my practice. A desire to strengthen these relationships is a continued undertaking. I have looked to objects to help me mourn, to make sense of things, to find a sense of order amongst the chaos. I have turned to our tangible world in an attempt to regain feelings of autonomy which had previously been stripped away from me'.

The Sculpture Gallery August - Fernanda Cortes

Come and delve into the wonderful world of Fernanda Cortes and her truly mesmerising pieces; it promises to be a unique and captivating exhibition.

Fernanda is a Mexican artist known for her sculptural works, having gained a Master of Arts in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art, London.  As a sculptor of anthropomorphic, medium-sized ceramic figures, her themes explore human moral dilemmas, which she also explores through her written stories.

Join Transform for an immersive, deeply moving video installation presented in collaboration with Light Night and Yorkshire Dance.  

Choreographer Katja Heitmann collects and preserves ‘human movement’ in the Motus Mori archive. Over 2000 people, including from Leeds, have contributed their personal gestures to this archive.

Life Drawing with Rob Oldfield

Join us in our monthly life drawing class with Gallery favourite, experienced artist and tutor, Rob Oldfield.

This workshop is open to everyone, from newcomers who want to take up a hobby through to experienced artists looking to hone their sketching skills.

Materials including various papers, pencils, charcoal and drawing boards will be supplied, but please feel free to bring your own too.
