SAA-uk's Summer School is back! Giving you the only opportunity in Yorkshire to delve into the world of Indian Classical music, join us for 6 days of musical exploration.
Summer School is a vibrant space for people of all ages and levels to explore vocals, percussive, stringed and bowed instruments played across South Asia.
We are proud to bring you this enriching learning journey alongside our specialist tutors who have an impressive legacy as musicians and teachers of the Indian Classical tradition. Whether you have been an admirer of Indian Classical music from afar or you hold an advanced grasp of the artform, our tutors are here for you.
To give you a clearer picture of what Summer School will entail, you will develop knowledge and understanding of foundational concepts and practices in Indian Classical music. This includes establishing a solid ‘Riyaz' (or practice) routine, to understanding ‘Raag' (melodic frameworks) and ‘Taal' (rhythm). This year there will be a central focus on rhythmic patterns, time cycles and groupings (Jaati), Through strengthening your understanding of these essential elements, you will be given the knowledge and skills that make up the heart of Indian Classical music.
We believe learning should be as joyful as it is comprehensive. For this reason, we are pleased to offer a variety of enrichment opportunities alongside classes, including live performances, circus skills workshops and more.
If this sounds like something you enjoy, book your place(s), and get ready for a summer of music!
