Workshop
Adults only
Event organiser:
Open Source Arts

Fully funded workshop, suitable for: Community/Faith Leaders & Professionals

This workshop supports community leaders to confidently address the fall-out surrounding acts of community violence, most notably the riots of August 2024. It will provide contextual understanding of issues like Islamophobia and the Far Right, as well as root causes of violent disorder. It also equips participants with skills and confidence to support impacted communities.

Learning Outcomes:

Better understand the role of extreme far right ideologies, mis-and-dis-and-malinformation, as well as concepts like Islamophobia, anti-migrant, racism and anti-Muslim hate.

More informed on the realities and consequences communities will face for involvement in criminal activity; via testimonial from lived experience facilitators.

Better understand the role of identity in community violence: e.g masculinity, race, ethnicity.

Be up-skilled in tools to conduct difficult, trauma informed conversations with impacted communities.

Be skilled in practical tips to stay safe both on and offline; learnt via role-play.

This is an interactive workshop that includes activities and discussion.

‘I came onto the course feeling quite emotional already and was quite vulnerable at the beginning however the training was managed so well that I was not put on the spot. The amount of information shared was brilliant and has given me a huge amount of thinking to do around supporting young people. The red line and as to where things become illegal was very interesting.’ Keisha, participant – London.

You will be provided with a certificate upon completion, and access to online resources for further learning.

Facilitated by Connect Futures – the team consists of expert professionals who have credibility, lived experience and in-depth knowledge.

Brought to Leeds by Open Source Arts and Leeds Asylum Seekers’ Support Network to support connected communities.
