Barry Egan (Adam Sandler), a socially awkward bachelor who owns a small business selling themed toilet plungers and other novelty items, leads a lonely life punctuated by emotional abuse from his seven sisters. To cope with his loneliness, he calls a phone-sex line, resulting in extortion and complicating his budding romance with Lena (Emily Watson), one of his sisters’ co-workers.
