Workshop
Event organiser:
Leeds Print Workshop

Explore plant and vegetable dyes to create colour onto cloth on this one day workshop.

Many plants and vegetables can be used to dye natural fabrics. On this one day workshop you will explore a range of natural dyes such as onion skins, turmeric and madder. You will also explore the use of mordants to help create a range of different colour textile samples.

The workshop aims to give you the skills and confidence to continue natural dyeing at home.

What experience do I need?

The workshop is a mixed level group and will be for everyone from those with no experience to those with an understanding of textile processes. Those with some previous experience can use the day to explore the use of a range of different dyes.

What will I make?

You will make a range of small coloured textile samples using a variety of different natural dyes and will also make a lot of notes to help you develop your ideas further at home.

    Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street, subject to availability.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
