Still Life, but Make It Modern! Plus, Art with a Twist!

The Mill Gallery is buzzing with excitement to announce not one, but two incredible exhibitions opening this February: "The Still & Me" and "Art By Chance".

Running from 7th February to 28th February 2025, on Fridays only, these shows promise to delight and surprise art lovers with fresh perspectives and unexpected creativity.

"The Still & Me" is a fresh and fun celebration of still life like you’ve never seen before. This exhibition invites you to dive into a world of creativity where anything—from flowers to animals, landscapes to quirky, contemporary spins on 16th-century traditions—can be part of the story. Expect a delightful mix of styles, subjects, and surprises.

We’ve pulled together a fantastic lineup of works that show just how versatile and exciting still life can be. Paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, prints—you name it, we’ve got it. Whether you’re into the classics or curious about the unexpected, this is the place to see still life like never before.

"This is not your typical still life exhibition! We’re inviting everyone to experience and celebrate the genre in exciting, unexpected, and truly dynamic ways," says Lucy Morrison Exhibitions Curator.

But that’s not all! Alongside the exhibition, we’ll be hosting a series of fun and hands-on workshops. From life drawing to painting sessions, there’ll be something for everyone to get stuck into. Workshop details and booking can be found at www.themillgallery.co.uk. (Workshop dates to be announced soon—stay tuned!)

"Art By Chance" in our Corridor Gallery brings an entirely different kind of excitement. In this one-of-a-kind show, the artists have been chosen completely at random! Using a bingo wheel, we’ve let chance decide whose artworks make it into the exhibition. There’s no selection panel, no curation—just pure serendipity. The result? A wonderfully unpredictable and eclectic mix of works that will keep you guessing and leave you smiling.

All artworks from both exhibitions are available for purchase. Support local artists and bring home a piece of creativity!

Join us for the opening event on Friday, 7th February from 7pm. Come along, grab a drink, and explore what’s new at The Mill Gallery. Don’t forget to check out our shop for even more fabulous finds!

Two shows, two unique experiences—and one unforgettable February at The Mill Gallery!
