Under the careful guidance of Louise, during this workshop your skills will be developed to enable you to create more complex designs, improve your techniques and explore more unusual materials such as paper, balsa wood and different fabrics.
You’ll also explore in more depth how to manipulate the colours produced and tensions of the sewing machine to create unusual and interesting stitches, including feather stitch and whip stitch. We’ll also discuss and explore tackling larger projects and how to manage them on a standard size sewing machine. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a set of inspiring samples and have at least started a piece of unique textile artwork.
You are more than welcome to use Swarthmore sewing machines for this workshop, however if you would like to bring your own - that is absolutely fine. You just need to ensure you have a free embroidery foot for your own machine.
