Would you like to take part in a collective silent disco dance event?
On the evening of Saturday 13 April, come along to experience a unique one-off dance performance through the streets of Leeds, followed by a mass public dance event that will transform Victoria Gardens, outside Leeds Art gallery, into a dance space for all.
Artist Melanie Manchot’s acclaimed participatory performance work ‘Dance (All Night)’ has its Leeds premiere after being performed in three European cities: Paris (2011), London (2017) and Biel (2019).
Melanie Manchot’s ‘Dance (All Night, Leeds)’ takes inspiration from the very first Reclaim the Night (RTN) March in 1977. ‘Dance (All Night, Leeds)’ will be an empowering and joyful act of taking up space in the city after dark.
There will be two processions and march routes which will be publicised nearer the time on the website and on Instagram and Facebook. Both processions start at 6.30pm and conclude in Victoria Gardens in front of the gallery at 8pm. At 8.20pm there will be a special performance by urban roller skaters. From 8.30pm members of the public can engage in FREE dance lessons offered by many of dance organisations involved in the march and can learn a new form of movement. Lessons will take place using silent disco headphones and will run from 8.30pm – 1am.
There is no need to book just come along on the evening. There will be over 300 silent disco headphones available on the night. There will also be food stalls and drinks provided by Functional Drinks.
If you are a dance organisation or group who wishes to take part in the procession please contact art.gallery@leeds.gov.uk to register interest. If you are interested in volunteering to help steward this event we’d also love to hear from you.
