A Short History of Trans Misogyny book club

'𝐼𝑛 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑡ℎ,' Jules Gill-Peterson writes, '𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑜𝑔𝑦𝑛𝑦.'

As Trans Awareness Week brings its usual round of flags and corporate platitudes, let's plot a route to true trans liberation by reading and talking about this slim, powerful queer history book, which exposes the historical origins of the transmisogynistic system in which we all live.

Come along even if you haven't read the whole thing, and we'll learn from each other: understanding how we got our current transphobic worldview is the first step towards burning it down.

Banned Books talk with Harry-Anne

Join publisher and librarian, Harry-Anne (Dragonhide Studios) for a talk about the past and present of book bans. Hear about the history of puritanism, anti-gay bans on children's books and the Nazi book burnings. Harry-Anne will chat about the modern British perspective including the social pressures and cyber bullying aspects of book banning.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A and you will be able to browse and purchase (banned!) books.

Is This What We Have Left - Artists in Conversation

Is This What We Have Left - Artists in conversation

Join artists James Thompson, Kate o'Neill and Marta Dyczkowska in conversation about their current show 'IS THIS WHAT WE HAVE LEFT' and how their rich and conversant practices form a tale of two cities that has resonant effect.

Our current show is focused on the wider current dialogues we are having as creatives around space in our city, and this event will give you a chance to engage in discussions with artists from another city on the same theme.

How do we keep what we have left?

This panel brings together the experience of activists, social entrepreneurs, academics and cooperatives to discuss how cultural and community spaces can be created, cultivated and preserved. This event is open to all, in particular those curious to learn about the socio-cultural spaces in Leeds and Bradford and those with practical questions on how to get started, run and enjoy working collaboratively to create spaces to play and be together.
