Red Violin Festival - A Musical Walking Tour

Leeds was a small town until the late eighteenth century. Musical life expanded and became more ambitious as new venues opened, opportunities for musical studies expanded, and high-calibre performers were attracted to perform here. As one of the top UK cities, Leeds has hosted many of the world’s greatest violinists and local players have made careers at national and international level.

See some of the places in Leeds city centre, apart from venues featuring in the Red Violin Festival, that have been associated with violinists, performances and makers.

Brands from the Past - Quiz

Do you know your Bisto from your OXO, and can you remember which brand claimed to be able to help with ‘all manner of minor ailments’?

Take part in a fun quiz inspired by our current exhibition which takes looks at the history of advertising and branding from the 19th century to today – The Power of Persuasion.

Test your brand knowledge with rounds including lost logos, made in Yorkshire, and spot the theme tune.

You will also get the chance to explore the exhibition with one of our curators and get up close with some of our old advertising objects and catalogues.

This session will include a detailed presentation followed by a look in closer detail at items in the collection and opportunities for questions.
