In June each year, we celebrate the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants on Windrush Day. Now, 77 years on from the arrival of Empire Windrush, we want to mark this anniversary by getting to know the local history of racial justice in our city.

Join Leeds Sanctuary as we learn about the history of the Black community in Leeds, while sketching landmarks in the city centre. This creative evening will be led by local historian and artist, Clifford Stead.

Join us for a look back at the end of the Second World War 80 years ago this year, with a particular focus on VJ Day (15 Aug 1945) but also looking at VE Day (8 May 1945). 

We welcome any reminiscences you are happy to share with us, or memories relating to the end of conflict that have been told to you by parents or grandparents. 

Tea and coffee provided, and adults of all ages welcome.

A chance to share your memories of children's television from the 1950s to the present, with contributions from our curatorial staff and a chance to chat over a hot drink and a biscuit. Join in our fun quiz on children's TV, and look at some of our favourite tv themed toys of yesteryear. Free drop in event.

An exciting line up of free workshops led by industry professionals as part of celebration week 

Age 12+ Families welcome 

Workshops include emceeing, Beatboxing, beat making, graffiti and break dancing.

The Trans Saints Project explores the history and legends of saints and figures who may be interpreted as trans today, with a book and a launch event. This is a 100% volunteer led project.

This event is for everyone - you do not have to be religious, LGBTQ, or academic to come and have a look. 

There will be artwork on display, and writing to read, plus there will be workshops you can join if you like!

An exhibition of Meanwood at War. Displays of Meanwood during the 1930s and 40s and the effect it had on the village and in particular the lives of the 46 men named on the Meanwood War Memorial.

Free entrance between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday 10th May at Holy Trinity Community Hall, Memorial Drive, Meanwood, Leeds.
