Gesture is the first exhibition from the Resilient Artist Cohort, an artist-led development programme from Aire Place Studios that centres radical care, collective agency and creative risk. Leeds Industrial Museum's new community-curated exhibition for 2025 explores the untold and sometimes concealed stories of women, people of colour and queer people who helped shape Leeds' rich film heritage.

The show looks at the culture of filmmaking within the context of the city, with a particular focus on inspiring local filmmakers, producers and cinemas, as well as visits by famous faces to Leeds!

From windowsills to allotments, Unearthed: The Power of Gardening explores how the act of gardening can heal and sustain people in a multitude of ways. It reveals how gardening can bring people together, empower communities and shape our relationship with the natural world. It also considers gardening as a form of activism, as a means of challenging land ownership and highlighting social disparities, as well as providing a global story about the movement of plants.

A Life of its Own

'The significance of human relationships with our tangible, material world has always anchored my practice. A desire to strengthen these relationships is a continued undertaking. I have looked to objects to help me mourn, to make sense of things, to find a sense of order amongst the chaos. I have turned to our tangible world in an attempt to regain feelings of autonomy which had previously been stripped away from me'.
