Open Archive: Roger Ackling

After artist Roger Ackling (1947–2014) died, his archive was gifted to the Archive of Sculptors' Papers, so it is now in Leeds Museums and Galleries' collection, housed at Henry Moore Institute.

Some of this rich collection is currently on display in the exhibition SUNLIGHT: Roger Ackling, on display at Henry Moore Institute until 22 June 2025.

As it's one of our largest collections, we can't fit everything we've got into the galleries, so instead we're giving you the opportunity to take a closer look and get hands-on with these fascinating materials.

Roundhay Artists Open Studios Art Trail

Another year (our 11th) and another Roundhay Artists Open Studios /Art Trail is here again but this time it is a little different.

There is so much creative talent in Leeds that we thought it would be a good idea  to help artists from around the city who don't live or work in the Roundhay area to showcase some of their work alongside the more established RA members who are all professional or semi-professional artists from the area local to Roundhay

So this year you will find some new faces and their artwork in our two 'hubs' in local churches

An Evening with the Artists: Loops Meet & Make

Experience an evening with the artists featured in our latest exhibition, Loops.

During this 2 hour Meet & Make session, Netherlands-based artists Gea van Eck, Monika Loster, Hanneke van Broekhoven and Yorkshire-based artists Andi Walker, Hannah Robson & Jane Claire Wilson will come together to share the journey behind their collaborative project.

They'll discuss the process of designing and making the centrepiece of the Loops exhibition - an installation created across many months and hundred of miles.

Victoria Ferrand Scott at The Sculpture Gallery

Make a date in your diary for the launch of Victoria Ferrand Scott's exhibition on the 1st May.

Please join us and Victoria and share a glass of wine, to welcome her as our latest Guest Artist. Working from her studio near Tadcaster in North Yorkshire, Victoria’s work is often abstract, exploring forms of indeterminable identity which seem to have their own inner life, open to diverse interpretation. She likes to retain a certain mystery as to the origins of the pieces.
