Join us to explore screen printing onto textiles. You will learn how to screen print using blank screens and paper stencils as well as how to coat and expose screens using the photo emulsion method. You will explore colour using textile pigment inks and learn how to mix colours for screen printing.
A fun and expressive approach to screen printing for any experience level.
Mono screen printing involves applying or painting colour directly onto an open screen in order to create unique prints with painterly marks. You will experiment with the application of paint and pastels exploring how different effects can be achieved. You will work in a spontaneous manner, creating a series of prints. There will also be opportunity to see how this method can be combined with the use of stencils.
Explore the exciting process of Gelli printing on this taster session.
On this one day workshop you will learn how to use the tools, materials and techniques to get started in bookbinding.
You’ll make books from scratch to take away with you using methods such as pamphlet stitch, concertina books and Japanese stab binding, and you will gain some knowledge to keep making books at home.
Bookbinding is great for creating notebooks, sketchbooks, albums or books which are art objects in themselves.
Learn how to create embossed and debossed patterns onto paper to create subtle imagery.
This taster session explores embossing techniques to produce subtle images on paper. The process uses no ink but creates raised and textured areas on paper using a range of different found materials. You will discover how to soak and use a range of papers to create embossed pieces using our traditional etching presses in the workshop.
Explore screen printing onto blank tote bags and t-shirts. This one day workshop will cover;
Preparing imagery for screen printing,
Coating & exposing screens,
Mixing inks,
Screen printing methods,
Heat setting/fixing inks to make them washable,
You’ll come away from the session with some finished products with your own design screen printed onto them and a whole lot of knowledge to continue with your own projects.
Spend a day exploring the jigsaw method of linocut to create an edition of multi-colour prints.
Printing a linocut jigsaw style is an easy way to print a design in multiple colours. You cut the lino block into pieces, ink them up separately, then put the lino block back together to print.
Explore the beautiful photographic process of cyanotype to create your own cyan-blue prints.
You will learn how to produce a set of cyanotypes where thin objects or acetates are placed directly onto specially-coated paper and then exposed to UV light. When these objects are removed and the paper is washed with water a blue image remains. You will also learn how to use a variety of effects called toning, intensifying and reducing which alters the blue-ness of the prints.
On this evening taster session you will make a series of prints using the intaglio printing process of drypoint etching. You will learn how to use drypoint etching tools on plastic and aluminium sheets, oil based inks and our two etching printing presses in the workshop. At the end of the session you will have a series of similar, but increasingly more complex, prints.
