Private Apartment Tours

The Private Apartments on the first floor of Harewood House have hosted artists, presidents, kings and queens for over 250 years, and have been used by the Lascelles family since the 18th century. You will be guided around rooms that are still in use by the 8th Earl and Countess, filled with objects and artwork that reflect their family’s diverse interests and tastes.

Meditative Walks

With Brahma Kumaris. 

A chance to get some fresh air and fresh thoughts and a taster of Raja Yoga meditation – and to reflect in beautiful surroundings on the beautiful qualities we all have inside us. 

Organised by Brahma Kumaris in association with Kirkstall Abbey, the walks are free of charge and open to all.

The Route of the Middleton Railway

From 1758, horses pulled carts of coal into Leeds from Middleton Colliery. In 1812 a new age began – not just for this short stretch railway but also for Britain and the world. Engineer Matthew Murray, of the nearby Round Foundry in Holbeck, was commissioned to build a steam locomotive to pull the wagons into Leeds. With his successful first engine in service, the colliery owner could out-compete his rivals in supplying the fuel that powered the industrial age.
