Rise Up Festival

Join us for a day of performance, music, dance, words and film marking Windrush and other journeys. Rise Up is a one day festival that showcases the rich Caribbean Heritage of Leeds and beyond. The day is made up of four events created to appeal to all ages and a special Mahogany Market offering crafts, food and more.

Expressions: A celebration of inclusive dance

Returning to the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Expressions showcases the exciting new work of inclusive dance groups from across Yorkshire and beyond. Celebrating the talents of disabled dancers, this is the only event of its kind in Leeds.

For over 10 years, Expressions has been bringing community groups and companies together to perform on a professional stage, all in the spirit of celebrating inclusive dance. Over two days, this festival will feature a variety of performances across four timeslots.

Polari

Founded in 2007 by author and activist Paul Burston, Polari is a multi award-winning LGBTQ+ literary salon. Known for its high energy, thought-provoking performances, Polari is a heady mix of live literature and cabaret, in which the performers happen to be writers.

Described by The Huffington Post as “the most exciting literary moment in London”, the salon also tours regularly, supported by Arts Council England.

Readings by a different local published poet each month and this month we’re delighted to welcome PETER SPAFFORD.

Peter is a writer, songwriter and broadcaster. He’s written for radio, theatre, musical theatre and opera.

His poetry collections so far are QUICK (Valley Press) and FRISK
(Yaffle). He’s working on a third at the moment.

PETER is also Director of Words at Chapel FM Arts Centre where he curates the annual WRITING ON AIR festival and presents the weekly podcast LOVE THE WORDS.

'Movement' : An evening of Creative Movement, Video and Performance

Join us for an evening on dance, movement, art and video installation. This is our second event.

This event at Yorkshire Dance will include two movement based workshops, exhibited video installation work, dance and performance from mentioned artists, as well as opportunities for attending artists to respond to work and happenings using life drawing, and written response.
