Temple Newsam House

Explore three floors of this magnificent country house, admire beautiful paintings, furniture and silver.

Explore over 40 rooms of treasures, with Chippendale furniture, silver, ceramics, fine art, and wallpaper. Uncover the stories of the people who lived here, including the notorious Lord Darnley and how generations of one family developed the house over 300 years.

Families can enjoy interactive play bays and a self-led tour with the servant Faith Hardwick. There are special events and activities running all year round, including rooftop tours and Christmas days out.

Last admission to the house is 45 minutes before closing.

Home Farm and Play Barn

Home Farm is a large working farm and is the largest Rare Breeds Centre in Europe. Here you can see rare sheep pigs, cattle and poultry. Examine historic agricultural equipment such as horse-drawn carts, wagons and threshing machines. Wander around 1500 acres of parkland, woodland, farmland and gardens.

Home to more than 400 animals including rare and traditional sheep, pigs, poultry and cattle.  There is a Georgian dovecote containing nesting holes for 2000 pairs of pigeons, a working estate joiner's shop and sawmills.

In the restored workshops you can take part in traditional craft demonstrations such as butter and cheese-making, blacksmithing and much more. There are even "hands-on" opportunities with some of the animals.

Newly opened in 2025, the Play Barn is a brand-new indoor play facility, perfect for families looking for fun whatever the weather. Set within the beautifully restored 100-year-old cow byre, this new space offers two play zones, a family-friendly cafe and a gift shop. 

In the Stable Courtyard there is a tearoom and a shop.
