Adults only

As part of an arts project funded by Leeds Inspired this event invites individuals who have identified as neurodivergent in adulthood (with or without formal diagnosis) to take part in a reflective discussion as part of a small group. We will talk about our individual lived experiences of masking, and how it feels to unpick this in adulthood, while engaging in a simple creative task of making uncomplicated folded paper structures.

We will discuss masking in general, our own lived experiences and practices involving masking and our potential struggles in communicating this with friends and family who might not see the effort of masking day to day, or associate our past behaviour with masking. You can bring along a family member or long term friend to take part in these discussions if desired.

Materials will be provided, and the creative activity will be partially led by the input of attendees and our group discussions - after making simple folded structures we may want to decorate these further; adding writing, collage or other decorations as desired.

We will be joined by Art Therapist Laura Marsh who will be there to support anybody if the process of discussing these deeply personal issues brings up any overwhelming feelings, and who can signpost further local support where necessary.

A quiet space will be made available and attendees are encouraged to move around if needed and bring along any items that will make them more comfortable during this session - fidget toys, noise reducing earplugs etc.

There may be an opportunity to exhibit your creative work, or have your personal reflections displayed (with your permission) as part of an art exhibition. More information on the project can be found  here.
