Living with Machines – join us for a night of strike songs and worker Ballads from the North of England which lay forgotten in the British Library.

Yorkshire-based Folk Musicians; Alice Jones (Piano, Harmonium, Body Percussion and Vocals), Simon Robinson (Dulcimer, Banjo and Vocals), Katy Ryder (Guitar, Flute, Whistles and Vocals) and Pete Dilley (Guitar, Bouzouki and Vocals) were tasked by Leeds Museum to put new music to the songs as part of their 2022 exhibition, ‘Living With Machines’.

The newly recorded songs were played inside the exhibition space to give life to the artefacts around them, and tell some of the human stories connected to the rapid technological and socio-economic developments of the age.

Supporting the recent release of the songs on an eagerly anticipated album, Living With Machines offer a night of rousing choruses, singing and foot-stomping opportunities, and songs which will delight as equally as pull at your very heartstrings.

“These powerful new melodies sound like they were meant for the lyrics, while the subject matter of striking, hardships and disasters will still resonate with listeners today.” (Steve Tilston)
