Dust off your wildest Hawaiian shirt, grab a deckchair, and soak up the summer’s most skin-tingling experience
After five consecutive sell-outs, Thackray Lates are back! And for one night only, we’re peeling back the science behind the body’s largest organ: skin.
Expect myth-busting talks, craft workshops, and pop-up performances, both inside and outside the museum. From tattooing to tanning, skincare to scar tissue – you’d be a flake to miss it.
The café will serve hot food, snacks and soft drinks, with a pop-up bar by Kirkstall Brewery serving drinks.
Full line-up of special guests, speakers and collaborators coming soon.
And whatever you do – don’t forget the SPF.
Thackray Lates is our series of adult-only evening events, exploring unusual topics and untold stories through talks, medical experiments, workshops and performances.

Access to the museum
We want everyone to enjoy the museum. It is fully wheelchair and buggy accessible, entry is free for essential companions, and we welcome assistance dogs (and our team are more than happy to arrange a bowl of water for hard-working thirsty dogs – please just ask).
The museum offers quiet openings on the last Sunday of each month from 10am–11am when the lights will be up and the sounds down. You can download a copy of our gallery map, which includes some sensory information and other details here.
