Explore the studio, meet the team, and take part in free hands-on sessions - drop in anytime.

Thinking about joining - or returning to - Sunken Studio? This is a relaxed and open invitation to come along, explore the space, and get to know how it all works before you commit to a class or membership.

Take a look around

Speak to the team and our members

Ask questions about courses, membership, and what to expect

Get a feel for how the studio runs day to day

We’ll be running two free drop-in activities throughout the day:

Tool making - using found materials to create improvised clay tools

Mark making in clay - exploring texture and surface

Both sessions are hands-on and designed to spark thinking. They’re part of a move towards more experimental, improvisational approaches - curious, resourceful, and grounded in experience. You’ll leave with a few tools - and hopefully a few new ideas too.

There’ll also be short talks from members of the team throughout the day:

Chris, Studio Manager, will share how his interest in sustainable making has evolved into an applied research project using construction waste from Leeds.

Milly, Community and Programme Coordinator, now training through a digital marketing degree apprenticeship, will share insights from her course that apply not only to marketing, but also to selling and developing your own practice.

Rebecca, Founder and Director, will talk about how the studio was built as a response to isolation - and how it continues to evolve through shared systems and individual growth.

Nova, Technical Supervisor, will bring examples of her articulated silversmithing and talk about materiality and the similarities between ceramics and metalwork.

We’re also working with members to explore informal demonstrations throughout the day - so expect a few things in motion. Nothing overly rehearsed - just open, live practice.

This year’s Open Day is part of Leeds Open Studios - a citywide invitation to see inside working studios across disciplines and neighbourhoods.
